It wasn’t all that long ago that a story emerged out of Atlanta claiming that a man’s cell phone battery stopped a bullet, saving his life. Here’s the video for those not familiar with the story.
Apparently this isn’t the first time a phone’s battery has been credited with stopping a bullet. But for individuals that get shot at a lot and want to protect more than a 1 square inch area of their body with a cell phone accessory, this iPhone case might be worth a second look.
It’s made from military grade components that have passed MIL-STD-810 testing. For those in the Navy, the STD portion means standard, not what you’re thinking. Amongst the MIL-ST-810 tests is “ballistic shock”, which leads one to believe that perhaps this case actually can stop a bullet. It will also apparently stand up to salt fog, which sounds just awful, and delicious.
The case was originally intended to be a one off, and was sold for $99, but apparently the designer has decided to grace us all with more of these little beauties. I might pick one up for my next trip to Newark, or the ATL. Other than that, I can’t really think of a reason to get one of these other than the “tool factor” of being able to tell people you own a military grade iPhone case.
